Organic repellent for camping

Organic repellent for campingIf you look in any camper’s box of essential camping supplies, you’re gonna find bug spray.

If your like me, I HATE the bug sprays that are on the market today.
That’s why I started buying an organic repellent for camping.

There are various types available out there on the market. It’s just finding the one that works for you.

I’ve also done some research that show’s Lemongrass is an effective way to keep mosquitoes away from your home.

Lemongrass

If you take that same Lemongrass, you can make your own organic repellent for camping using a mixture of lemongrass oil and other essential oils.

Here’s the recipe I found for making  your own repellent.

Mix about 1 ml each of

  • lemon grass oil,
  • citronella oil and
  • eucalyptus oil

Add this all to 3-5 ounces of water. You should always do a skin test to see if you are sensitive to any of these essential oils. But, I figure it’s gotta be a lot safer then using the chemical bug sprays on our skin.

What to put on after the bug bites ya???????

Well…….. Jerry and I grew up using Campho-Phenique. Works pretty good on the itchy and scratchy mosquito bites. But you can also try some of the following:

  • vinegar
  • aloe
  • baking soda and water (just make a little paste)
  • honey
  • lime and and/or lemon

These are just a few handy and easy remedies that most people have around the camp trailer or home.
Have  you used an organic repellent for camping? I’d really like to hear some of your feed back on this issue. Just leave your comments in the box below. And……don’t forget to tweet this to your friends and family.
