When your camping with kids, you want to be able to fix some easy food for camping. You really don’t want to be spending all your time cooking meals. If your kids are old enough, why not start them on cooking and have them help you fix some easy food for camping.

Over the year’s, I’ve been put into the position of having to teach kids how to cook.

Brownies, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, 4-H Bread Making Class, and of course, our own kids.

There have been oodles of recipes that would work up real good as easy food for

camping.

One of the most liked and easiest to fix is Ice Cream in a can. If you can’t find a few coffee cans to use, check out this Ice Cream Ball at Amazon.com…………

  • Make ice cream anywhere–great for camping trips, picnics, and barbecues

    Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker (Ice Cream Ball)

  • Just add ice and rock salt in one end and ice cream mix in the other end
  • Then shake it, pass it, or roll it around for 10 to 15 minutes

A simple and easy food for camping - Ice Cream in a Can.

For the recipe, your gonna need the following:

Everyone LOVES Ice Cream!!!!!!!!

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
  • 1 1-pound coffee can with lid
  • 1 3-pound coffee can with lid
  • 1 pint of half and half (milk can be used instead)
  • 1 egg, beaten (optional)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla, 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup, or 1/4 cup of strawberries

Preparation:

Add all of the above ingredients to the 1 pound coffee can; mix well. Put the lid on the coffee can and secure with duct tape. Place the 1 pound coffee can into the 3 pound coffee can. Surround with crushed ice and rock salt and place the lid onto the 3 pound coffee can.Have your kids sit on the ground and roll back and forth 3 to 4 feet apart. Roll for 8 to 10 minutes. (The kids can kick the can back and forth as well.)Check to see if the ice cream is hard; if it isn’t, replace the lid, add more ice and rock salt. Roll for another 8 mins.

Remove the lid to the 1 pound can and serve in bowls.

    What a great idea for a camping activity! Not only does it look like it would taste great, but it is the kind of fun activity that would get kids involved. Haven’t had homemade ice cream in awhile, I miss it!

      Yep, the kid’s are gonna love this fun activity. We had our Brownee troop make it one year on a camp out. Was an instant hit!!!Smile all around.
